Chattooga County School System is committed to the belief that every student, regardless of disability, should have the opportunity to be a part of an age-appropriate regular classroom and the support needed to ensure a successful learning experience within the regular classroom setting. The Georgia Department of Education recognized Chattooga County School System for excellence in the education of students with disabilities by:

  • Achieving a higher percentage of graduates with regular education diploma.
  • Transitioning students to their desired postsecondary outcomes.
  • Serving students in the least restrictive environment
  • Decreasing the number of students who drop out.

The Georgia Learning Resources System (GLRS) recognized Chattooga County School in conjunction with Georgia's Performance Goals for Students with Disabilities for:

  • Highest performer (drop out rate).
  • Most improved (least restrictive environment).
  • Most improved (fully certified)

Department Announcements
DESTRUCTION OF RECORDS OF STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES
Chattooga County Schools, Special Education Department, announces its intention to destroy records that where developed to provide a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in Chattooga County School System. This notice is in compliance with the federal, state, and local policy. Records will be destroyed in July 2017 based on the following criteria:
  • Students with disabilities born between July of 1994 and July of 1995 who graduated with a transition diploma, certificate of performance, or reached maximum age of 22.
  • Students who became twenty-two (22) years old between July 2016 and July 2017.
These records will be destroyed as they are no longer needed for educational purposes. The parent, legal guardian, or the student (18 years old or older) may request records prior to destruction by contacting the Special Education Office at 706-822-9902. You will be required to produce identification or provide verification data to acquire these records.
